Martin Marietta Materials, one of the top five US aggregates producers, has announced a first half turnover 11.3 per cent ahead at US$1649.8m and EBITDA rose by 40.6 per cent to US$419.1m. Titan's first-half turnover improved by 7.6 per cent to EUR723.8m and EBITDA was ahead by 13.5 per cent to EUR119.5m. Following an increase in the depreciation charge of a modest 6.7 per cent, the trading profit improved by 21.4 per cent to EUR59m. In the first quarter of its financial year to 31 March, Eagle Materials' turnover, including its share of the Texas Lehigh cement joint venture, increased by 3.3 per cent to US$322.4m. Total Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico remained stable at 7.692Mt in April 2016 when compared with the previous year when 7.678Mt were delivered, according to the US Geological Survey’s latest data. On 17 June 2016, the United States Federal Trade Commission reached an agreement with HeidelbergCement AG and Italcementi SpA allowing the merger between the two companies to proceed on schedule. USA: union workers reject contract

According to union representatives, union workers at a northern Nevada cement plant have rejected a contract proposal from the Nevada Cement. The previous contract expired 28 February 2016, but was extended to allow time for negotiations. The latest extension will expire on 30 June. Richard Daly, business manager for International Union Local 169, said the two sides are scheduled to meet on 22 June.
