Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for May 2012 were 7.5Mt – 15.9 per cent higher than shipments in May 2011. Shipments for the year through May were 29.4Mt, up by about 18 per cent.
The leading producing States in May were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan, and Florida, in descending order, and accounted for 42 per cent of total output. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, and Illinois, in descending order) received about 36 per cent of the May total shipments.
Clinker production totalled 6.3Mt in May, almost nine per cent higher than output in May 2011. Production for the year through May was 25.4 Mt, up by almost 12 per cent. The leading clinker-producing states in May were Texas, Missouri, California, Alabama, and Florida, in descending order May 2012 imports of cement and clinker of about 720,000t were 19 per cent higher than those in May 2011. Imports for the year through May were 2.4Mt, up by almost 13 per cent.
