The maximum cement price in Senegal will remain at previous year’s level, according to the country’s Ministry of Commerce.
"Pursuant to the provisions of Article 43 of Law No. 94-63 of 22 August 1994 on price, competition and economic litigation, ceiling prices for ex-factory cement are set at prices previously applied as of 1 January 2018", indicated a decree sent to the Agence de Press Sénégalaise.
The announcement follows a recent price increase by Sococim, which had lifted its price by XOF3500/t of cement.
However, the ministry said that any price increase above the legal maximum is illegal. "The infringements of the provisions of this order are punishable by the Law number 94-63 of August 22, 1994 on prices, competition and economic litigation," it added.
