The Myanmar-Korea Cement Group will not be granted permission to extend its permit to build a cement plant in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon state, having only constructed 10 per cent of the plant, three years after the initial permit was awarded by the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC).

The decision was announced by U Aung Kyaw Thi, the representative of Mon State Parliament and chairman of the public budget scrutiny, finance planning and economics review committee. Myanmar-Korea Cement Group had requested an extension of the permit for one-and-a-half years.

Meanwhile, the June Cement Industry Ltd project has only completed 15 per cent of its plant construction leaving the Mawlamyine Cement Ltd plant as the only new plant to come on-stream in the Pyar Taung area of Myanmar.
