Total cement sales by Vietnamese producers slipped four per cent to 8.091Mt in August 2019 when compared with the year-ago period, according to data by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Compared with the previous month’s sales of 8.087Mt, they remained largely stable.
Of this total, domestic sales totalled 5.175Mt, down five per cent YoY. VICEM saw sales decline by seven per cent to 1.628Mt while its joint-venture companies reported an erosion of 14 per cent to 1.397Mt. The rest of the country’s cement producers saw a five per cent gain to 2.15Mt in August.
In terms of exports, cement exports fell 18 per cent YoY to 798,209t in August while clinker exports advanced five per cent to 2.118Mt. This resulted in a total export figure of 2.916Mt in August, slipping by three per cent YoY.
January-August 2019
Total cement sales between January and August 2019 increased two per cent to 63.87Mt. This includes 42.515Mt of domestic sales, up two per cent, and 20.877Mt of export sales, down one per cent.
Over the eight-month period, VICEM reported a three per cent increase in sales to 14.364Mt while its joint-ventures supplied four per cent less product to market, or 11.715Mt. Other Vietnamese producers enjoyed a six per cent rise in sales to 16.436Mt.
Cement exports were up considerably, by 38 per cent, to 7.806Mt while clinker exports declined by 15 per cent YoY to 13.071Mt. Therefore, total exports slipped one per cent to 20.877Mt.
