Cement consumption in Spain has increased 2.6 per cent YoY to 1,162,861t in September 2019, according to Oficemen, the Spanish cement association. However, Imports surged 87.5 per cent YoY to 50,000t. Demand in the first nine months of 2019 has advanced by 8.5 per cent YoY to close to 11Mt.

However, exports have continued to fall. In September they slipped 2.7 per cent while for the 9M19 cement and clinker exports dropped 21.2 per cent YoY. The worsening export figure has been attributed by the organisation to high electricity tariffs and the elevated price of CO2 emissions.
