Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 13 per cent in September 2019 to 9.4Mt, when compared with September 2018, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). The leading consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, which made up 37 per cent of total market demand. The leading producing states were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan, which accounted for 41 per cent of output.
Masonry cement shipments in September 2019 totalled 208,000t, representing a YoY increase of 3.5 per cent. Key consuming states were Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, which received 56 per cent of shipments in September.
Clinker production in the USA totalled 6.9Mt in September, indicating virtually no change from September 2018.
Domestic output was supplemented with 1.5Mt of cement and clinker, up 5.5 per cent YoY.
January-September 2019
Portland and blended cement shipments for the first nine months of 2019 increased 3.6 per cent to 76.3Mt when compared with the equivalent period of the previous year.
Shipments of masonry cement remained stable YoY, reaching 1.8Mt in the 9M19.
Clinker output in the 9M19 also remained level at 57.7Mt with Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
Imports saw an 8.5 per cent increase YoY to 12.5Mt in January-September 2019.
