Cambodia's five cement factories produced 7.7Mt of cement in the January-November period of last year, according to a report from the Cambodian Cement Manufacturing Association (CCMA). Kampot Cement Co Ltd (SCG) was the largest producer at 2.2Mt, followed by Chip Mong Insee Cement Corp (CMIC) with 1.9Mt.
Battambang Conch Cement Co Ltd (Conch) produced 1.6Mt, Cambodia Cement Chakrey Ting Factory Co Ltd (Huaxin) 1.1Mt and Thai Boon Roong Cement Co Ltd 0.88Mt, the report indicated.
The booming construction industry has been fueling growing demand for raw materials, including cement. During the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and upgrading of two roads in Kampot and Kep provinces on 30 December, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia currently produces up to 9Mta of cement while consumption is more than 10Mt, which leads to imports to meet local demand.
New cement investment in Kampong Speu province is undergoing a feasibility study, according to its governor Vei Samnang. The CCMA also pointed out that the domestic cement factories produced 8.9Mt in 2021, up from 8.5Mt, reported Khmer Times.
