Loma Negra inaugurates second line

Loma Negra (InterCement group) has inaugurated its new production line at the L'Amalí plant in Olavarría, Argentina. Together with national, provincial and municipal authorities, and the cement manufacturer’s customers and suppliers, the  second production line of L'Amalí, the largest cement plant in South America, was inaugurated on 6 December 2021. Its incorporation allows the company to increase cement production capacity by 40 per cent and create more than 160 new direct jobs.

Argentina’s Loma Negra has reported an 8.5 per cent YoY increase in revenue to ARS17,800m (US$176m) in the third quarter of 2021, against ARS16,399m in the comparable period of 2020. Consolidated adjusted EBITDA declined 9.1 per cent to ARS4696m from ARS5167m, while the margin fell to 26.4 per cent from 31.5 per cent. Argentina’s cement consumption increased 6.6 per cent YoY and 2.8 per cent MoM to 1,141,043t in October 2021, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. Loma Negra relights L'Amalí kilns

Argentine-based Loma Negra has turned its kilns at its L'Amalí in Olavarría back on after resolving the conflict with Minerar, the union that exploits the company’s limestone quarry. The Argentine Mining Workers Association (AOMA) and Loma Negra reached an agreement to improve the working conditions of Minerar’s staff.

Argentina’s Loma Negra has reportedly stopped production at its L'Amalí plant in Olavarría as a result of a union conflict between the Mining Workers Association of Argentina (AOMA) and its limestone supplier, Minerar, leaving it without stock of the raw material. Argentinian cement demand increased seven per cent YoY to 1,110,527t in September 2021 from 1,037,475t in September 2021, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.
