Holcim contracts YPF as fuel supplier

YPF signed an agreement to supply natural gas and petcoke to Holcim’s plants in Malagueño (Córdoba), Campana (Buenos Aires province), Capdeville (Mendoza) and Puesto Viejo (Jujuy), Argentina. The duration of the agreement is two years and will supply all of Holcim Argentina’s natural gas and petcoke supplies, according to CE Noticias Financieras. The Argentine cement market contracted 12.5 per cent YoY to 917,297t in August 2020, according to the latest data published by AFCP, the country’s cement association. However, when compared with the previous month, an expansion in sales of 6.3 per cent was reported. Argentina-based Loma Negra (Intercement) has sold its 51 per cent majority stake in Paraguay’s Yguazú Cementos. The value of the deal was not announced, but the company had been valued at US$80m. The buyer was a local shareholder company ConcretMix (owned by Grupo Bogarín), according to a note sent to Argentina’s National Securities Commission. In July 2020 Argentina’s cement market contracted by 13.5 per cent YoY to 865,869t but expanded by 8.5 per cent MoM, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Holcim Argentina has named Victor Mariaca as new commercial director. Mr Mariaca held previously commercial positions within Holcim, including regional commercial manager. Cement demand in Argentina has fallen 7.3 per cent YoY to 797,926t in June 2020, according to AFCP, the national cement association. However, MoM a 23 per cent advance was reported.
