Vietnam market expands 23% YoY in September

Domestic cement sales in September rose 23 per cent YoY in September 2018 to 5.313Mt, according to data published by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Brazil’s cement producers sold 4.564Mt of cement to domestic customers in September 2018, down 5.6 per cent when compared to the 4.835Mt sold in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement producers’ association, SNIC. Cement consumption in Peru reached 0.966Mt in September 2018, slipping by 0.3 per cent when compared with the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement producers dispatched some 0.958Mt in September, 0.5 per cent less than in the previous-year’s period, when 0.975Mt was delivered. Cement sales in Morocco increased by 20.1 per cent YoY to 1.043Mt in September 2018 from 0.688Mt in September 2017, according to data from the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. In the first nine months of 2018, cement demand has fallen 2.7 per cent YoY to 9.799Mt from 10.07Mt in 9M17. Cement producers have reduced their growth forecast for 2018 from 12 per cent to seven per cent, according to Oficemen, Spain’s cement association. They attribute the lower growth rate to the economic slowdown and “paralysis” that governs the execution of public work. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico in July increased by 9.4 per cent YoY to 9.3Mt, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement deliveries in Switzerland  slipped 1.7 per cent YoY to 1,144,790t in the third quarter of 2018, according to Cemsuisse, the country’s cement association. The Argentine cement market contracted by 10.6 per cent YoY in September 2018 to 1.012Mt from 1.132Mt in September 2017, according to provisional data by AFCP, the country’s cement association. Cement dispatches by Asocem members remained largely stable in August 2018 at 865,000t when compared with the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem.
