Brazilian cement market sees 2% slip in 10M18

Cement sales in Brazil by domestic producers totalled 44.2Mt in the first 10 months of 2018, and were down 1.5 per cent YoY, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. Uruguayan 3Q domestic cement sales up 14%

Cement sales in Uruguay increased 14 per cent YoY to 181,000t in the July-September quarter, according to a report by the country’s Chamber of Industries. However, exports fell by 74 per cent to 12,000t during the same period. Around 60 per cent of exports are delivered to Paraguay, followed by Argentina (27 per cent) and Brazil (13 per cent). Imports were negligible in the third quarter of 2018 and in the year to date, accounted for around 8.9 per cent of apparent consumption.

Kenya sees 2% MoM drop in demand

Consumption of cement in Kenya fell 2.2 per cent from 466,909t in August to 456,473t in September 2018, according to a recent report by Kenya National Statistics Bureau. Output followed a similar trend, decreasing by 2.8 per cent from 473,861t to 460,546t over the same period. Spain sees 9% rise in demand in September

The Cement Demand Index has seen an 8.5 per cent increase YoY in September, but slipped 0.2 per cent MoM, according to data published by Oficemen. In the October 2017-September 2018 period, it is estimated that Spain has consumed 13Mt of cement with growth attributed to the residential sector. Clinker and cement exports continue to fall for the 16th month running. In August they fell by 8.4 per cent YoY.

Peru cement market expands 3% in October

Peru’s cement consumption advanced 2.9 per cent YoY to 1.02Mt, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production by domestic producers fell by two per cent YoY and by 2.9 per cent MoM to 0.903Mt while clinker output decreased by 23.5 per cent YoY and 2.1 per cent MoM to 0.678Mt in October. Cement dispatches in September 2018 increased by 0.8 per cent YoY to 1.031Mt from 1.023Mt, according to DANE, the country’s statistics office. Demand growth was led by Córdoba, where it rose by 18.3 per cent YoY, followed by Meta (+16.1 per cent) and Nariño (+12.8 per cent). Argentina's cement demand falls 10% in Oct 2018

Argentina's cement market contracted by 9.6 per cent YoY to 1,040,317t in October 2018, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, AFCP. Deliveries by the country’s cement producers fell by 8.8 per cent to 1,040,197t while at 120t, imports were a shadow of those in October 2017 (9720t). US and Puerto Rican markets expand 6% in August

Total shipments of Portland and blended cements in the USA and Puerto Rico increased by 5.8 per cent in August 2018 when compared with August 2017, according to the latest figures by the US Geological Survey (USGS). In the first eight months of 2018 deliveries rose 4.2 per cent YoY to 65.5Mt. Domestic demand in Spain up 8%

Cement demand in Spain noted an eight per cent YoY growth in June, according to the Spanish cement association, Oficemen. In addition, cement exports have seen an accelerated decline, falling by 10 per cent YoY. For 2018 the association expects consumption to advance by seven per cent YoY, closing the year with a demand of 13.3Mt.

Kyrgyz Republic produces 1.6Mt of cement in 9M18

Cement producers in the Kyrgyz Republic manufactured 1.6Mt of cement in the first three quarters of 2018, according to GS-Expert. This represents a YoY growth of 36 per cent. Domestic consumption rose seven per cent while exports saw a 420 per cent hike.
