Vietnamese cement demand rose 14 per cent YoY to 5.44Mt in August 2018, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, northern provinces accounted for 39.2 per cent or 2.13Mt of total domestic consumption while off-take in central Vietnam reached 1.42Mt or 26.2 per cent. Cement consumption in Morocco declined 28.2 per cent in August 2018 to 881,411Mt when compared with August 2017, when 1,227,932t was sold, according to data of the Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Sales in the largest market, Casablanca fell by a third YoY to 193,737t while in Marrakech-Safi deliveries dropped by 13.1Mt to 135,824t over the same period. FEI: Egypt faces oversupply

Cement demand declined in 1H18 to 25Mt, compared with 26Mt in 1H17, according to Noha Bakr, the head of the cement committee of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI). In 2017 domestic consumption decreased 4.5 per cent YoY despite ongoing mega projects, Mr Bakr said. He added that the main challenge for the industry remains oversupply as stockpiles rose by 2.3Mt in 1H18 to 7.1Mt.

Cement demand in Morocco increased 7.8 per cent YoY to 1,298,479t in July 2018 from 1,204,101t in the previous year, according to data from the country's Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. Argentine cement demand remained largely stable in August 2018 as it reached 1.115Mt when compared with 1.122Mt in August 2017, according to the latest data from AFCP, the country’s cement association. Local cement sales in the Dominican Republic increased 5.1 per cent in the first six months of 2018 to 2,196,282t from 2,089,935t in 6M17, according to the country’s cement association, Adocem. Peru’s cement plants supplied 790,000t of cement to the domestic market in July 2018, up 1.8 per cent YoY and four per cent MoM, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem.
