Saint-Gobain signs Romanian energy deal

Saint-Gobain has signed a five-year renewable electricity supply agreement (power purchase agreement or PPA) in Romania with energy supplier OMV PETROM SA. The contract covers the purchase of green electricity from wind and photovoltaic sources provided by OMV PETROM SA and will start in January 2026.  OMV PETROM SA will provide around 800GWh of green electricity for a period of five years. Uzbekistan sees opening of new 2.5Mta cement plant

The opening ceremony of a new 2.5Mta cement plant took place in the Andijan region of Uzbekistan, according to Trend. China-based Conch International Holdings Ltd and Zhejiang Shanfeng Building Materials Co Ltd invested US$250m in the Andijan Conch project near the border with Kyrgyzstan. Uzbek cement production reached 15.5Mt in 2023. In January 2024 the sector supplied an output of 627,900t, more than doubling the production of January 2023.

Turkey exports to Georgia up 7% in 1Q24

Turkey has increased its exports of cement products to Georgia by 6.8 per cent YoY to US$17m in the January-March 2024 period, according to the country’s Trade Ministry. However, exports to global markets were down by 7.4 per cent YoY to US$1.1bn in the 1Q24. In March alone, cement product exports to Georgia were up 4.4 per cent YoY to US$7.6m. On a global scale Turkey’s exports were down 1.1 YoY to US$390m.

Cement consumption in Ukraine increased 17% in 2023

Cement consumption in Ukraine rose by 17 per cent last year, up 5.4Mt compared to 2022, says Pablo Kachur, head of the country's cement association, Ukrcement Association. “A similar jump is not predicted this year, but we will probably get 6Mt of domestic cement consumption,” said the representative. In 2023 OAO Krichevcementnoshifer reported a loss of BYN120.65m (US$36.9m), a fourfold YoY increase despite a 9.3 per cent YoY revenue increase, according to Charter 97. Lebap Cement takes delivery of 25 dump trucks

Turkmenistan-based Turkmen Cement plant saw delivery of 25 SYZ320C-8Y dump trucks by SANY in March during the second phase of the 1Mta Lebap cement plant project in Koytendag, The dump trucks have a cargo capacity of 20m 3 and a lifting angle of 45° with front lifting. They are powered by a Yuchai YC6MK400-50 engine and comply to Euro V emission standards. The introduction of the trucks will improve the efficiency and reliability of construction and logistics operations.

Steppe Cement posts 24% drop in 1Q revenue

Kazakhstan-based Steppe Cement reported revenue of KZT3.779bn (US$8.4m) in the first quarter of 2024, down 23.5 per cent from KZT4.938bn in the year-ago period. The company's market share in Kazakhstan contracted to 11.5 per cent in the 1Q24 from 12.7 per cent in the 1Q23. Domestic cement sales in Turkey came in at 5.602Mt in December 2023, down 5.5 per cent MoM and 14.9 per cent YoY, according to Turkey’s cement manufacturers association, Türkçimento. Buzzi SpA's 2023 regional results see cement sales climb in Italy

Buzzi SpA reported domestic hydraulic binders and clinker sales in Italy up 2.1 per cent in 2023, while the ready-mix concrete output slightly declined 1.4 per cent. The average prices of cement and concrete confirmed their improvement compared to the previous period. Kant Cement Plant builds new clinker line

Kyrgyz Republic-based Kant Cement Plant OJSC has commenced construction of a new dry clinker production line. The new line will have a clinker production capacity of 2500tpa, equivalent to an annual capacity of 0.8Mt.  The Kant Cement Plant, located in Ysykaty District, currently has a production capacity of 1.089Mta of cement and 0.99Mta of clinker.
