Clinker transport causes pollution in Fiji

Pacific Cement Ltd (PCL) has been accused of clinker dust pollution by local residents in the settlement of Kalekana, in Fiji. Clinker is transported daily by truck to its factory and conditions are becoming intolerable for local residents outside Lami. Duna-Dráva Cement completes plant renovation

Duna-Dráva Cement Kft has announced that a HUF7bn (US$26.12m) project to improve sustainability at its facility in Vác, Hungary, has been completed. Construction work took place between 2016-18, with the newly-renovated plant inaugurated on 18 May. The project has been successful in significantly reducing dust emissions, according to the Budapest Business Journal. A new filter system ensures that dust is contained, even in a malfunction or power outage.

The PKR474bn (US4bn) Diamer-Bhasha dam is expected to raise cement demand in Pakistan by as much as 20-25Mt over the next four to five years. The dam will have an installed power capacity of 4500MW. PT Semen Indonesia says it has fulfilled all of its operational requirements at its 3.3Mta Rembang cement plant, Central Java, since last March despite a series of protests by locals over environmental issues.
