The Earthen School Tipu Sultan Merkez in a small village near Lahore, Pakistan, has won the Holcim Award Gold which comes with a cash prize of US$100,000. The school building, designed by architect Mr Eike Roswag of German-based Ziegert Roswag Seiler Architekten Ingenieure, was built with the locally-manufactured cob (clay, sand, water, and straw) and bamboo. Siam Cement Group (SCG) has invested 24 per cent in Green Alternative Technology Specialist Inc. (GATSI), which is engaged in the manufacture of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) in Rizal province of the Philippines.
