Thailand’s Siam Cement Group has outlined further details of plans to expand its cement presence in Southeast Asia. Siam Cement PCL said Wednesday its third-quarter net profit fell 13 per cent from a year earlier, mainly because of higher expenses and cost of sales. PT Semen Gresik plans to issue US$150m of global bonds in 2013 to finance its plan to buy a smaller rival in Southeast Asia, Reuters reported the company’s CEO Dwi Sutjipto saying. State-controlled cement maker Semen Gresik has opened its IDR3.18trn (US$332m) cement factory in Tuban, East Java, in the presence of Indonesia’s State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan. Indonesia's domestic cement sales fell 0.1 per cent in August from a year ago, data from PT Semen Gresik Tbk showed on Wednesday. August sales were 3.6Mt, the lowest since September last year, down 25.2 per cent on a monthly basis, the data said.
