Iran’s largest cement line at Abyek Cement Complex was put into operation on Tuesday, according to the Tehran Times. Iran’s cement market contracted by 24 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt in April 2021, according to the Iranian Cement Association. In April 2020 the country’s demand reached 5.91Mt. Iranian cement plants produced 68.3Mt of cement in 2020, according to the Cement Industry Employers’ Association. This represents a capacity utilisation rate of 78.5 per cent. The association expects output in 2021 to rise to more than 70Mt.

A total of 54,000t of cement have been exported to Afghanistan from Sistan and Baluchestan province, southeastern Iran, since the start of the Iranian year on 20 March.
