Bamburi Cement records 21% climb in turnover

Kenya's Bamburi Cement has recorded a 21 per cent YoY growth in turnover to KES19.6bn (US$178.45m) for the first half of 2021, compared with KES16.2bn in the 1H20. Cement consumption in Kenya advanced 26.6 per cent YoY to 3.35Mt in the January-May 2021 period when compared with 2.64Mt in the 5M20, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. Four Kenyan cement manufacturers have requested for an urgent meeting with the national treasury over a proposal to review the Common External Tariff (CET) on imported clinker. Kenya’s East African Portland Cement (EAPCC) has posted a KES1.035bn (US$9.425m) net loss for the half-year ended on 31 December 2020. The loss was still a 34 per cent improvement from the KES1.575bn loss recorded in the year-ago period. Kenya-based East African Portland Cement Co (EAPCC) has reported a net loss of KES2.77bn (US$25.46m) for the year ending 30 June 2020, an improvement compared to the KES3.36bn loss in the previous fiscal year. Kenya's cement consumption for the 8M20 has hit a decade-high of 4.37Mt, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
