Ciments de Bizerte posts 53% turnover drop in 1Q24 due to lack of petcoke

Tunisia-based Les Ciments de Bizerte saw a 52.6 per cent drop in turnover to TND12.262m (US$3.9m) in the first quarter of 2024 from TND25.858m. The drop in turnover was due to the halt in clinker production during the quarter. The company suspended clinker production in the 1Q24 due to a lack of petcoke following financial challenges that prevented the company from importing the kiln's sole fuel. Cement deliveries in Morocco by APC members – Asment Témara , Ciments de l’Atlas , Ciments du Maroc , LafargeHolcim Maroc and Novacim – increased by 21.1 per cent YoY to867,743t in April 2024 from 716,483t in April 2023, according to the country's Ministry of National Planning, Urban Planning and Housing. APC elects Saïd Elhadi as new president

Morocco's cement association, APC, has elected Saïd Elhadi as its new president, it said in a press statement. Mr Elhadi, president of LafargeHolcim Maroc , will take over from Khalid Cheddadi. The association thanked Mr Cheddadi for his service and dedication. APC members operate a total of 14 integrated cement plants and seven grinding units with a total capacity of over 24.5Mta.    

Moroccan cement deliveries fall 14% in March

Cement deliveries in Morocco dropped 14 per cent YoY to 1,028,481t in March 2024, according to the country's cement association, APC. Sales by its members – Asment Témara , Ciments de l’Atlas , Ciments du Maroc , LafargeHolcim Maroc and Novacim – were down from 1,195,305t in March 2023. Deliveries to the retail sector fell 20.7 per cent to 575,731t in March 2024 from 725,926t in March 2023. Sinai Cement sees sales surge in 2023

Egypt’s Sinai Cement has reported a surge in sales, with EGP4.28bn (US$90.68m) posted for 2023, compared to EGP2.34bn in the previous year. A consolidated net loss after tax of EGP121.42m was seen in 2023, down from EGP330.41m in 2022, while the loss per share of the holding company fell from EGP2.48 in 2022 to EGP0.91 in the following year.  On a standalone basis, the net loss after tax contracted from EGP319.8m in 2022 to EGP117.58m in 2023.

On 7 March 2024, Misr Beni Suef Cement Company SAE (MBSC) reported that it made a net profit of EGP369.102m (US$7.520m) after tax in 2023. This comes after they reported net losses of EGP145.945m in 2022. In 2022 the company reported sales of EGP1.844bn. Over the same period in 2023, MBSC’s sales grew to EGP2.023bn. Egypt's  Arabian Cement Company has reported net sales of EGP5.93bn (US$119.67m) in the year ended 31 December 2023, up from EGP4.55bn in the same period in the previous year. Gross profit advanced from EGP904.85m in 2022 to EGP1.33bn the following year.
