RHI wins order at Lafarge Exshaw works

Austrian refractory materials maker RHI AG has been awarded a supply contract for around EUR10m from Lafarge for its plant in Exshaw, western Canada. Under the contract, RHI will deliver material for the expansion of the plant.

CRH returns to first-half pretax profit

CRH's first half turnover advanced by four per cent to EUR8,324m and the EBITDA improved by 27.2 per cent to EUR505m. The trading profit jumped from EUR41m to EUR171m and after a net interest charge 2.7 per cent higher at EUR150m, the pre-tax result went from a loss of EUR71m to a EUR61m profit. Lafarge's profit drops in Europe and Latin America, but group net profit jumps

Lafarge's turnover declined by 3.9 per cent to EUR15,198m in 2013, having increased by 3.5 per cent in 2012. The EBITDA came down by 9.4 per cent to EUR3102m and the trading profit fell by 14 per cent to EUR2,075m as carbon credits dropped by 85.9 per cent from EUR99m to EUR14m. The preliminary full-year 2013 figures from HeidelbergCement show turnover easing by 0.6 per cent to €13,936m, though on an underlying basis there was a 3.4 per cent increase. A recent report by Morgan Stanley has lowered the growth outlook for global cement demand for 2013 to adjust for a changing economic landscape in emerging regions. CRH's turnover improved by 3.2 per cent last year to €18,659m while the EBITDA was off by one per cent to €1640m. There were 36 acquisitions during the year and the outlook for acquisition opportunities is deemed positive. Lafarge has awarded Babcock International a UK£100m fleet management contract across its cement and aggregates sites in North America. The 10-year deal sees Babock providing a fleet managed serviced for Lafarge’s heavy mobile equipment. It follows the UK£50m fleet management contract that Babcock was awarded by Lafarge covering the UK aggregate and cement sites last July.
