Cement consumption in Argentina increased 15.6 per cent YoY to 938,327t in February 2022 when compared with 811,697t in the second month of the previous year, according to AFCP, the national cement association. Argentina-based Loma Negra , owned by I ntercement do Brazil SA ,  reported a 37.4 per cent fall in net profit to ARS2795m (US$25.8m) in the fourth quarter of 2021. Peru’s Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion has started a series of technical meetings with construction unions and companies to lower the weight of cement bags in the country from 42.5kg to 25kg. Argos, Grupo Argos' cement company , reported a consolidated EBITDA of COP2.16bn (US$55m) at the end of 2021, representing an increase of 34 per cent compared to 2020 and the highest in the company's history. Cement dispatches to the Peruvian cement market by Asocem members reached 1.012Mt, up two per cent YoY and by 22 per cent when compared with January 2020, according to Peru’s cement association, Asocem. Total cement sales in Brazil (including exports) declined by 8.6 per cent YoY to 4.6Mt in January 2022, according the country’s cement association, SNIC. Sales volumes of cement, concrete and prefabricated products of Peru-based Cementos Pacasmayo fell 6.2 per cent  in the 4Q21 when compared with the 4Q20. Argos opens new Cartagena terminal

Colombia-based Argos has inaugurated its new port terminal in the free zone of Cartagena, Colombia. the new terminal will triple its export capacity to 3.5Mta. The terminal can serve vessels of up to 60,000t.
