UK construction output update

Construction output in the UK increased by 1.5 per cent in April 2015 compared to the year before, marking the 23rd consecutive month of YoY growth but at the weakest rate since November 2013. Output was down by 0.8 per cent in April 2015 compared to the month before, after increasing by 1.4 per cent in March 2015, latest data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) shows. Cemex has invested GBP1m in a new concrete plant at its existing site in Leeds, UK. Cemex demolished the old plant in January 2015 after 63 years of operations. Hope Construction Materials has announced a major investment in rail transportation from its flagship Derbyshire cement operation in the UK. The company is investing over GBP1m in the manufacture and long-term lease of 48 tailor-made rail wagons for the distribution of cement from its Hope Works, in Hope Valley. The latest Construction Trade Survey shows that firms across the construction industry reported an eighth consecutive quarter of growth in activity in the first quarter of 2015.
