Eurocement’s Ukraine operations see further market growth

Plants operating under the Eurocement-Ukraina network produced more than 1.2Mt of cement in the first nine months of 2012. More than 1.22Mt of cement have been sold in the reporting period. According to VV Gorgolyuk, CEO of Eurocement-Ukraina, results during the period indicate that the potential for further market growth and the strengthening of leadership position in the market of the plants included in Eurocement-Ukraina still have not been exhausted.

Ship faces detention in Ireland over claims of unpaid wages

A ship carrying cement was facing detention in Drogheda on the east coast of Ireland last night due to an almost €80,000 in alleged unpaid crew wages, according to reports in the Irish Times. The MV Julia’s nine -man crew from Ukraine, Russia and Lithuania had not been paid since May, International Transport Workers Federation co-ordinator for Ireland and Britain Ken Fleming said. Ivano-Frankivskcement reports 2011 net profit, Ukraine

Ukrainian cement producer Ivano-Frankivskcement achieved a net profit in 2011 of UAH6.039m (EUR0.58m), according to local press reports.  Net revenue increased by 23.73% or UAH168.194m to UAH876.974m over 2010. Ivano-Frankivskcement finished the full year of 2011 with a net profit of UAH6m, according to a report by Ukrainian News. Eurocement Ukraine, one of the three largest Ukrainian cement producers, ended 2011 with losses of UAH46.048m, the company announced in a statement. In 2011, Eurocement Ukraine increased net revenues by 16.18% or UAH191m compared to 2010, to UAH1,374m. For the first quarter of 2012, HeidelbergCement Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk region), one of the largest cement producers in Ukraine, incurred losses of UAH71.595m (EUR6.7m). Cement production in the Ukraine in March 2012 grew by 7% compared to March 2011 to 620,000t, the country’s state statistics service has said. Ukrainian producer, Podilskyi Tsement, has reported loss of UAH9.67m (US$0.9m) for 2011 but the domestic construction sector is showing signs of a reversal in fortunes.
