Vietnam sees double-digit rise in 9M13 sales

Vietnam to launch three more plants by year-end

Cement producers in Vietnam will bring three more plants into production later this year (X18, Quang Phuc and Dong Lam), according to the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA). This will take the sector’s total capacity to the 70Mta mark and exacerbate the existing market glut. Vietnam monthly output up 13% MoM

Cement producers in Vietnam increased their output 13 per cent MoM and 17.6 per cent YoY to 5.2Mta in September, according to the country’s General Statistics Office (GSO). The GSO also revised down the national output figure for August to 4.6Mt from an earlier estimate of 4.9Mt. Vietnam producers increase prices

Vietnam producers have increased cement prices by VND100,000/t (US$4.71) to help mitigate higher input costs despite domestic demand remaining subdued. The increase is due to the rising cost of inputs such as petroleum, coal and power. The average selling price is now VND1.28m. Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem), domestic market leader, said cement and clinker sales rose by 9.5 per cent YoY to 14.38Mt. Domestic sales accounted for 13.64Mt of the total while 742,000t was exported. The group produced 10.89Mt of clinker and 11.13Mt of cement, up 12.5 and 11.8 per cent YoY, respectively. Khai Hung Co acquires Vietnam firm

Khai Hung Company has acquired a 51 per cent stake, or 10.2 million shares, of Vinaconex Xuan Mai Concrete & Construction JSC (XMC) from Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (or Vinaconex). Vietnam cement production in August climbed to 4.9Mt, an 8.32 per cent increase compared to the same period of last year, the General Statistics Office has said. Compared to July 2013, last month’s output rose by 6.52 per cent on a MoM basis. The office revised down production in July to 4.6Mt from a previous estimate of 5.1Mt. Two Vietnam plant licences revoked

Cement plant licences for two projects being set up in the central Vietnam province of Nghe An have been revoked due to slow implementations. The two projects are the 5Mta Tan Ky cement plant in Tan Ky district, and the 0.43Mta Hop Son works in Anh Son district, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te Vietnam newspaper reported. The Tan Ky cement plant, a project by Kinh Bac City Development Share Holding Corp, started construction more than two years ago, on 19 May 2010.

Vinaconex to sell majority stake in Cam Pha Cement

Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex) is in talks to sell its 70 per cent stake in Cam Pha Cement. According to reports by Vietnam News Brief Service, the shares are to be sold to an overseas investor at below the par value of VND10,000/share but no lower than Cam Pha’s book value.
