Saudi cement producers urged to maintain reserve supplies

The government of Saudi Arabia is urging cement companies to maintain a strategic stockpile of cement to prevent future shortages. A directive to this effect was issued by the Commerce and Industry Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, according to local press reports. Lipetskcement increases first-quarter output, Russia

Lipetskcement, part of the Eurocement Group, reported a 25 per cent increase in production during the first quarter of 2013, the company announced in a statement. The company produced 164,000t of cement in the three months to the end of March 2013, with the production of CEM 1 32.5 N being six times higher than the first quarter of 2012. Cemex first quarter sales fall 8% in 1Q13

Cemex' first quarter turnover declined by 5.3 per cent to US$3318.6m, while the EBITDA came off by 8.1 per cent to US$521.1m. Vietnam production rises 4.6%, Jan-Apr 2013

Cement production in Vietnam is estimated to have reached 17.9Mt of cement in the first four months of this year, up 4.6 per cent from a year earlier, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said. In April, the country’s cement output is likely to rise by 8.5 per cent YoY to 5.4Mt, the GSO said in its monthly report. The government-run office revised up the country’s cement output in the first quarter of this year to 12.5Mt from the earlier estimate of 12.4Mt.

Vicat's first quarter turnover was ahead by 1.2 per cent to EUR491m, which represents an underlying improvement of 2.7 per cent. Kazakhstan-based cement producer Steppe Cement Ltd on Wednesday confirmed that pretax profit more than doubled in the year ended 2012 thanks to sales that were up by almost 10 per cent YoY and higher prices. Group revenue rose to US$120.17m for the year compared to US$96.11m in 2011 while pretax profit was US$12.04m compared to US$5.55m the year before. Cement dispatches from the Peruvian market reached 2,476,577t in the first quarter of 2013, representing a YoY rise of 10.8 per cent on the same period of last year (2,235,485t). Philippine cement sales in the first quarter of 2013 rose 3.4 per cent YoY to 4.787Mt, according to the head of the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines.  First-quarter cement sales were also up from the fourth quarter sales of 4.409Mt, CeMAP President Ernesto M. Vietnam sold 9.48Mt of cement in the first quarter of this year, down slightly from 9.57Mt in the same period of last year, the Ministry of Construction (MoC) said. The decline was attributed to a stagnant real estate market, according to the MoC. The three-month figure accounted for 19.5 per cent of the country’s full-year target, the ministry said on its website late Wednesday.
