Lafarge Zimbabwe to reduce foreign shareholding

Lafarge and the Zimbabwe government have agreed on Lafarge reducing its shareholding in the Zimbabwean cement manufacturer to 49 per cent. “We have agreed with the relevant authorities on the indigenisation modalities to bring down foreign shareholding to 49 per cent, in line with the indigenisation and economic empowerment [policy]. Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) has reported a rise in overall cement and clinker sales for the first two months of the year but export volumes declined. The country’s largest cement group sold 2.88Mt of cement and clinker in the first two months of the year, up by 30 per cent from a year earlier. Argentine February shipments decline

Argentine cement plants shipped 839,223t, including exports, representing a decline of 7.1 per cent on February last year, according to the latest data published by association AFCP. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the February figure was 8.1 per cent less than the amount shipped in January. However, domestic sales, including imports reached 809,280t, an increase of six per cent YoY but a decline of 8.9 per cent MoM.

Brazil February cement sales edge ahead

Cement sales in the Brazilian cement market in February 2013 reached 5.1Mt, up 2.2 per cent on the same month of last year, according to data released by Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento. For the first two months of 2013, sales were 10.6Mt an increase of 1.8 per cent YoY. In 2012, domestic sales reached 68.3Mta, an increase of 6.9 per cent over 2011 (63.9Mt).

Thatta Cement majority shareholder shares stake to consortium

The majority shareholder of Thatta Cement, Pakistan, has sold its stake to a consortium of four private companies. In an announcement sent to the Karachi Stock Exchange last week, Arib Habib Corp (AHC), along with its subsidiaries, said it has sold its 61 per cent holding in Thatta Cement to the consortium PKR24.16/share. UltraTech Cement, India’s largest cement producer, has reported a six per cent decline in February 2013 sales, amid wider concerns of subdued demand across the domestic market. Pakistan sales increased 3.2 per cent over the first eight months over the current fiscal, according to initial data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). Total shipments of Portland and blended cements in the US and Puerto Rico in 2012 reached 79Mta, up by about nine per cent YoY, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey. Vietnam is estimated to have produced 8.2Mt of cement in the first two months of this year, up 16 per cent from a year earlier, according to the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
