Senegalese cement output up 9% in December 2020

The production of cement in Senegal has advanced 8.9 per cent MoM in December 2020. However, domestic cement sales have slipped by 0.1 per cent  while exports were down 9.2 per cent MoM, according to the national statistics and demographic agency, ANSD. When compared with the year-ago period, production edged up 0.9 per cent, while local sales remained stable and exports contracted by 17 per cent.

Oman Cement receives bids for new project

Oman Cement Co has reportedly received commercial bids from EPC contractors for its integrated cement plant in Duqm, according to Muscat Daily. The 5000tpd project is expected to represent an investment of US$250m. Lehigh Hanson partners with Fortera to reduce carbon emissions

North America's Lehigh Hanson (HeidelbergCement) and Fortera Inc have announced a collaboration project to reduce emissions from Portland cement production. The two companies will work together to construct and operate a small commercial plant at Lehigh's cement facility in northern California. Argentina's Loma Negra has announced a 20.6 per cent YoY rise in net revenue to ARS13.26bn (US$160m) for the 4Q20, compared to ARS11bn in the year-ago period. Cement sales in Brazil increased 14 per cent YoY to 4.7Mt in February 2021, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Key drivers of the market expansion were the maintenance of real estate works and self-construction as well as favourable weather. Cementir Holding's consolidated results for 2020 saw cement and clinker sales volumes total 10.7Mt, up by 12.9 per cent compared to 2019. This increase was mainly due to the upturn in sales in Turkey where cement volumes rose by 39 per cent over the year. Argentina’s cement market expanded by 18.2 per cent YoY but contracted 9.3 per cent MoM to 686,602t in February 2021, according to the country's cement association, AFCP. Cemex announced that it expected to recommission one of its product lines at the San Pedro de Macoris plant in the Dominican Republic. This would imply an increase of 33 per cent in the company’s cement supply in the country and would help serve the growth in the Caribbean construction sector. Peruvian cement producer Unión Andina de Cementos (UNACEM) saw its revenues advance by 16.2 per cent YoY in the 4Q20, driven by a 14.5 per cent increase in dispatches in Peru with improved average prices as well higher cement and ready-mix deliveries in Ecuador.
