Mexico’s GCC has seen its consolidated net sales for the first quarter of 2021 decrease by 1.5 per cent to US$178.8m from US$181.4m in the 1Q20. This was primarily due to lower cement and concrete volumes in the US and the depreciation of the Mexican peso. Pakistan’s Maple Leaf Cement has reported a 13 per cent rise in net sales to PKR26.1bn (US$168.29m) for the nine-month period ended 31 March 2021, up from PKR23.1bn in the year-ago period. Profit after tax also reached PKR5.52bn from a loss of PKR3.7bn in the 9MFY19-20. Holcim Philippines reported an 81 per cent rise in net income to PHP909.35m (US$18.79m) in the first quarter of 2021, compared to PHP501.54m in the year-ago period. Bolivia’s Fábrica Nacional de Cemento SA (Fancesa) inaugurated its new production line at Cal Orcko, near Sucre. The US$215.45m investment will bring plant capacity to 2100tpd. Tunisia-based Les Ciments de Bizerte advanced its total revenues to TND40.2m (US$14.7m) in the 1Q221, up 61 per cent when compared with TND25m in January-March 2020. Japanese cement producer Taiheiyo Cement Corp will implement technology for CO 2  capture from the flue gas of rotary cement kilns in the first, 10tpd demonstration plant in Japan. Cement deliveries in Switzerland (including Liechtenstein) slipped 1.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2021 when compared to the 1Q20, which was the last not fully affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Swiss cement association, Cemsuisse. India's ACC (LafargeHolcim) has reported a 74 per cent rise in net profit for the first quarter of 2021, rising to INR5.63bn (US$75.33m) from INR3.23bn in the year-ago period.
