PCA Spring Forecast 2019: US cement consumption growth of 2.3%

The Portland Cement Association (PCA) has released its annual Spring Forecast, which envisions strong to moderate growth for cement consumption through 2019 and into 2020. Cement production in Vietnam in February 2019 reached 5.093Mt in February, up eight per cent when compared with February 2018 but down 29.7 per cent from 7.247Mt in January 2019, according the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). At ACC Ltd's (LafargeHolcim group) 83rd Annual General Meeting, Neeraj Akhoury, managing director and CEO, said the company's cement sales had increased eight per cent to 28.37Mt in 2018. Cementos Argos has released its financial figures and strategic milestones of 2018 during the shareholders' annual meeting. Cementos Argos reported a consolidated EBITDA of COP1.54bn (US$491.7m) and a growth of eight per cent. The company dispatched 16Mt of cement and 10.3Mm 3 of concrete generating income of COP8.4bn. Titan Group records turnover of EUR1.4bn in FY18

Titan Group recorded consolidated turnover for 2018 at EUR1490.1m, recording a marginal one per cent decline compared to 2017. Cemex has announced that it has reached a binding agreement with Çimsa Çimento to divest its white cement business, including its Buñol plant in Spain, for approximately US$180m. Niger's president inaugurates Malbaza Cement plant

Niger's President, Issoufou Mahamadou, inaugurated the new Malbaza Cement Co plant in the Tahoua region of Niger, on 20 March 2019. Owned by private capital from Niger, the plant currently has a cement capacity of 0.54Mta, but this has the option to be expanded to 0.65Mta at a later date. Monde Dashti Cement’s new 1.2Mta cement production unit has been inaugurated by Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani, through a video conference, according to the Tehran Times.  The plant based in Bushehr province represents an investment of around IRR3.8trn (US$90.48m) and has created over 170 job opportunities.
