Buzzi Unicem's first half turnover improved by 2.7 per cent to EUR1180.7m and the EBITDA rose by 27.7 per cent to EUR138.5m. Titan's first-half turnover improved by 3.9 per cent to EUR571.2m while the EBITDA was ahead by just 0.8 per cent to EUR89m. Italcementi's first-half turnover declined by six per cent to EUR2048.4m, but the running EBITDA did improve by 2.2 per cent to EUR304.8m. Buzzi Unicem and Wietersdorfer deal completed

Buzzi Unicem has completed a strategic agreement with Wietersdorfer initially announced in February this year. Under the terms of the deal, Buzzi Unicem is receiving EUR22m from W&P Cementi for its 0.3Mta cement works at Cadola (Italy) and the right to acquire the 0.4Mta Travesio (Italy) cement plant within the next five years. Cementir's turnover emerged just 0.1 per cent ahead at EUR472.8m in first half of the year, as the improvement in Denmark and Norway was offset by currency weakness and the continuing decline in Italy. Israel: antitrust moves to increase competition

Israel’s antitrust authority is taking steps to introduce competition in the domestic cement market by calling on the country’s dominant producer to make a plant disposal or adjust discounts to its largest customers. Argos closed the first half of 2014 with an 87 per cent increase in net profit driven by acquisitions and positive market trends, most notably in the US which generated earnings in the second quarter that were almost twice the EBITDA of full year 2013 in the regional division. Lafarge sells Pakistan cement operations

Lafarge announced the sale of its cement operations in Pakistan for an enterprise value of US$329m to local producer Bestway Cement. Lafarge Pakistan Cement Ltd, in which Lafarge owns a 75.86 per cent stake, operates an integrated cement plant located close to Islamabad in the north of the country. The divestment contributes to Lafarge’s net debt reduction goals, the company said in a statement. Completion of the deal is subject to regulatory approval.
