Peru: cement dispatches edge ahead

Between January and May 2014, Peru’s cement market expanded by 0.51 per cent YoY to 4,129,906t, according to the latest figures from the domestic cement association, Asocem. Production rose by 0.95 per cent YoY to 4,231,221t in the first five months of the year, from 4,191,295Mt in the same period a year ago. Exports jumped from 81,356t to 95,716t, up 17.65 per cent during Jan-May.

Huaxin acquires stake in Cambodian plant

China's Huaxin Cement Co Ltd has bought a 40 per cent stake in Cement Chakrey Ting Factory Co Ltd of Cambodia. The US$24m investment was announced on 17 June, according to a recent company announcement. After the investment, the Cambodia cement producer's registered capital grew to US$60m from US$32m. The Hubei province-based cement manufacturer says the acquisition in Cambodia is the company's second overseas investment after establishing a subsidiary in Tajikistan in 2011.

Asia Cement targets increased market share

Asia Cement Corp said it plans to boost its market share in the provinces of Hubei, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Jiangsu, the company disclosed at its annual shareholders’ meeting. Through mergers and acquisitions, it aims to increase market share to above 30 per cent in five major Chinese cities: Wuhan, Nanchang, Jiujiang, Chengdu and Yangzhou. Semen Indonesia to fund Thang Long expansion

State-run cement producer Semen Indonesia is planning to spend US$300m to establish a new plant in Vietnam as part of its business expansion in southeast Asia. The new facility will be in the south of the country, near the company’s limestone mine. Vietnam sees cement demand pick up

The Vietnam National Cement Association (Vicem) says domestic cement consumption in the first five months of 2014 reached 20.42Mt, up 9.3 per cent on the same period last year. In the last month alone, cement consumption in the country was estimated at 4.87Mt, increasing 12 per cent against May 2013. Recovery in Indonesian monthly cement sales growth

Indonesian cement sales growth picked up pace during May following a slowdown during the month before on the back of legislative elections. Last month cement sales advanced by 7.7 per cent to 5.2Mt, latest data from the Indonesia Cement Association shows. PPC Zimbabwe's domestic sales fell by five per cent in the first five months of the year as housebuilding activity slows. Managing director, Njombo Lekula, said domestic market sales have been flat compared to last year when growth in housing projects boosted demand for cement. Holcim US Inc is planning to invest US$100m to modernise its Ada cement works which will see an increase in capacity at the Oklahoma-based plant.
