BCMA calls on government to lower customs duty on clinker

The Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association (BCMA) has urged the country’s government to reduce the customs duty on clinker.  Cement producers are currently required to pay a duty of BDT500/t (US$4.61/t) on imported clinker. The government has proposed to increase this to BDT700 in its budget for the next fiscal year. Cemcor completes upgrade work

Cemcor has completed the upgrade work on its Cookstown plant in Northern Ireland, UK. Following the company's acquisition of the plant, it committed GBP6m (US$7.54m/EUR6.98m) to replace the electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) with a state-of-the-art bag filter at the plant. Brazilian cement market expands 1% in May

Cement sales in Brazil (excluding imports) increased by 1.2 per cent to 5.56Mt in May 2023, when compared with 5.494Mt in May 2022, according to the Brazilian cement association, SNIC. The northern market saw the biggest increase, by 8.3 per cent YoY, to 234,000t, followed by the south, where the uptick was 3.9 per cent YoY to 975,000t. Aalborg Portland signs letter of intent on CO2 storage hub

Aalborg Portland and Fidelis New Energy have signed a letter of intent enabling the cement producer to potentially supply more than 400,000t of CO 2 to the Norne Carbon Storage Hub in Aalborg through a direct pipeline connection by 2030. Total shipments of Portland and blended cements, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico declined by six per cent YoY to 8.7Mt in March 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).  Of the total blended volume reported, 3.2Mt, or 96 per cent, was estimated to be Portland limestone cement (Type IL). BUA Cement has received funding to develop two new production lines at its cement plant in Sokoto state, Nigeria. The US$500m funding will boost BUA’s total production capacity from 11Mta to 17Mta, according to Reuters.
