Italy sees 32% advance in 1H production

Domestic cement output in Italy picked up by two per cent YoY in June 2021, following a YoY increase of 18 per cent in May 2021, according to Federbeton. In the January-June period output has advanced 32 per cent when compared with the year-ago period. To supplement local supply, Italy imported 151,444t of cement in May 2021, up 75 per cent YoY. Cementos Molins to acquire aggregate and concrete business

Spain’s Cementos Molins has reached an agreement to acquire Hanson Hispania’s aggregate and concrete business in Catalonia. The move will see it bolster its operations with two concrete plants, based in the Barcelona free zone and Montcada i Reixac, as well as a quarry in Begues and another in Llinars. Mannok doubles cement bagging capacity

Mannok, based in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, has invested EUR2.1m in its cement bagging facilities to double the company’s production capacity. Germany-based Haver & Boecker were awarded the contract to design and manufacture a new 10-spout Roto-Packer Adams bag filling system and a new automatic film reel changer. Tarmac’s Dunbar Cement plant has given its Marubeni Komatsu PC2000’ backhaul excavator a seven-week overhaul. Swedish Supreme Court does not grant Cementa leave to appeal

CRH reports 1H sales up 15%

CRH saw its sales for the first half of 2021 increase 15 per cent YoY (10 per cent on a like-for-like basis) to US$14bn. Aalborg Portland reports sluggish Futurecem sales

Sales of its lower-carbon cement, Futurecem, have not reached the projected volumes of 40,000tpa, 18 months after its market launch, according to Denmark-based Aalborg Portland. Baumit's Wopfing cement plant in Piestingtal, Austria, has invested EUR5.6m in the modernisation of the plant's clinker cooler.
