The Irish government has announced that it will provide specific guidance for the use and procurement of low-carbon cement and concrete in public sector projects. Cement consumption in Spain recovered in April after poor weather and fewer working days weighed heavily on the 1Q24. Sales rose 11.5 per cent YoY to 1.324Mt, up from 1.188Mt in April 2023, according to the Spanish cement association, Oficemen. Trials complete on pilot Electric Arc Furnace

The UK-based Materials Processing Institute has recently completed successful trials of its pilot Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) for the UKRI Cement2Zero project. The trials have been developing and testing the use of end-of-life cement as an EAF flux to produce steel, whilst also capturing the slag to produce clinker to manufacture zero-emissions cement.
