Total Portland and blended cement deliveries in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced by 5.2 per cent YoY to 9.9Mt in October 2018, according to data by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Romanian cement market valued at EUR650-700m in 2018

The value of the Romanian cement market is estimated between EUR650m-700m (US$743m-800m) and is primarily supported by three large players: LafargeHolcim, HeidelbergCement and CRH. The three cement majors reported around RON3bn in total sales in 2018, representing a YoY rise of 10 per cent. LafargeHolcim’s Romanian operations were valued at EUR633m, followed by CRH (EUR469m) and HeidelbergCement (EUR410m).

Cement demand in Vietnam slips 1% YoY

Total cement demand in Vietnam fell to 5.828Mt in December 2018, down by one per cent YoY, but up three per cent when compared with November 2018, according to the latest data by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Puerto Rican cement sales surge 39% in 2018

Cement sales in Puerto Rico advanced by 38.9 per cent to 14.3m bags of 42.5kg, or 607,750t in 2018. The figure is the highest reported since 2014 and has been attributed mainly to the island’s reconstruction drive following Hurricane Maria. Cement output reached 13.2m bags, or 561,000t, representing a 44.6 per cent rise YoY when compared with 2017, when production volumes fell by 14.2 per cent, according to Esmerk Latin American News.

Peru's cement market expands 4% in 2018

Cement consumption in Peru increased 5.8 per cent YoY to 1.02Mt in December 2018, according to the latest data from Peru’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production remained largely stable in December 2018 at 906,000t, up 0.9 per cent YoY and 0.6 per cent MoM. Clinker output rose 2.1 per cent YoY to 913,000t and 6.9 per cent MoM from 855,000t. In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, total cement deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2018 increased two per cent YoY to 1,088,196t from 1,067,145t in the 4Q17, according to Cemsuisse, the Swiss cement association. Cement sales in the Brazilian market remained largely stable at 3.964Mt in December 2018 from 3.97Mt in December 2017, according to the latest data from the country’s cement association, SNIC. Argentina’s cement market contracted 19.5 per cent YoY to 808,887t in December 2018, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In December 2017 domestic off-take was 1.004Mt. Domestic dispatches of grey cement in Colombia advanced 4.3 per cent YoY to 1.065Mt in November 2017 from 1.021Mt, according to the latest data from DANE, the country’s statistics office.
