Najran Cement resumes production at 6500tpd line

Saudi Arabia’s Najran Cement has temporarily suspended operations of its second production line. However, it will resume production at its 6500tpd third line from 1 July due to a decrease in its clinker inventory, according to Reuters. The change in production lines is also expected to increase operational efficiency and decrease fixed costs in the FY19 by SAR5.7m (US$1.52m).

Xuan Khiem Group seeks approval for new 2.3Mta plant

Vietnam’s Xuan Khiem Group is seeking approval from the prime minister to build a new 2.3Mta facility in Hoa Binh province at an investment of VND4.99trn (US$214.16m), according to Vietnam News. The Xuan Son project is scheduled to complete in 2020, with the plant expected to cover 38ha of land in Yen Thuy district. At the end of last year, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the People’s Committee of Hoa Binh to build the plant.

International Cement fails to receive SGX acquisition approval

International Cement Group (ICG) has failed to receive approval from the Singapore Exchange (SGX) for the complete acquisition of Schwenk Namibia , valued at US$104.4m, according to Business Standard. The exchange has stated that the acquisition does not satisfy a requirement for the target business to be profitable. Lafarge Africa narrows loss to NGN8.8bn in 2018

Lafarge Africa reported a NGN8.8bn (US$24.4m) loss in 2018, compared with NGN34.39bn in the previous year. The company’s audited results have been released, showing revenue of NGN308bn, up from NGN299bn in 2017. Finance costs increased to NGN45.973bn from NGN43.217bn, while loss before tax reached at NGN19.508bn. A tax credit of NGN10.707bn reduced the loss after tax to NGN8.802bn. Zimbabwean cement producer Livetouch International, part of Diamond Cement, plans to increase its cement capacity utilisation rate from the current 45 per cent. State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (VICEM), the country’s leading cement producer, is estimated to have sold 14.98Mt of cement and clinker in the first half of 2019, representing a five per cent YoY increase. The total includes 13.1Mt of cement, up 11.4 per cent YoY, and 1.87Mt of clinker, a 25 per cent YoY drop. Cemento Inka expects to start Pisco construction in August

Peru-based Cemento Inka plans to start the civil works for its new 0.7Mta grinding plant in Pisco in August. The US$20m project is expected to take 12 months to complete with commissioning due in the 2H20, according to the company’s Director and Marketing Manager, Carlos Alberto Choy.
