Akhangarancement records production increase in May

Uzbekistan-based Akhangarancement has announced an increase in cement production for May 2018. The producer recorded a 2.7 per cent YoY increase to 175,024t in May, according to Uzbekistan Daily. The volume of clinker production also increased by 838t to 130,060t for the period. Plant maintenance which began in November 2017 was also successfully completed in May, including repairs to the rotary kilns and cement and raw mills by company personnel.

Armenia's Hrazdan Cement Corp is operating again and has been bought by GM Holding, which is under Russian ownership. Zhoghovurd (People) newspaper, reports that GM Holding is owned by Arsen Mikaelyan, chairman of Armbusinessbank CJSC board, which belongs to billionaire Vitaly Grigoryants, born in Karabakh, who lives in Russia. Council pulls out of Holcim Westport purchase

The Buller District Council has reneged on a US$5m plan to buy Holcim cement assets and land on the West Coast. The assets include a water supply and treatment plant, a quarry, land, silos and a packing plant in Westport, Cape Foulwind and Tauranga Bay, New Zealand. Dangote has sold 0.332Mt of cement from its 1.5Mta cement plant in Douala, Cameroon, in the first quarter of 2018 according to the Nigeria-based cement producer.
