Irish Cement has been granted a licence by the Environmental Protection Agency to burn tyres and other solid wastes as fuel at its Mungret facility, Limerick, Republic of Ireland. LafargeHolcim's Brookfield cement plant in Nova Scotia, Canada, has begun burning 20tpd of scrap tyres to reduce its coal use and lower its carbon footprint. Cemex UK invests in trailers for clay haulage

Cemex UK has started using trucks with non-tipping belt trailers on its clay supply route between Southam Quarry and Rugby Cement plant. Thanks to the conveyor belt bed in the trailer, there is no need for the truck to tip the clay out, which ensures there is no risk of truck rollover or collision with buildings if the body is not lowered. LafargeHolcim plans to reduce carbon footprint of European business

LafargeHolcim intends to reduce its annual CO 2 emissions in Europe by 15 per cent (3Mt) like-for-like by 2022. Holcim Ecuador has received a carbon-neutral certificate for its Holcim Agrovial and Base Vial products by environmental consultant Sambito. When compared with traditional products, Holcim Base Vial reduces CO 2 emissions by 54 per cent while Holcim Agrovial lowers CO 2 emissions by 54 per cent per kilometre of road built.

Bharathi Cement commissions 10MW solar power plant

India’s Bharathi Cement has commissioned a 10MW solar power plant at its 5Mta cement works in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. The facility is expected to help cut the company’s overall energy costs by reducing its reliance on thermal power.
