Safi CO2 helps grow Omega Green algae

Omega Green, the algae cultivator in Eemshaven, The Netherlands, has opened a 1ha production location in Safi, Morocco. The company will use the CO2 emitted by HeidelbergCement’s Safi works to grow algae. Holcim Argentina subsidiary Geocycle has signed an agreement with Argentina’s Minister of Production, Labour and Sustainable Development, Graciela Pinal de Cid to enable the co-processing of tyres. The UK-based Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change has urged cement producers to considerably reduce their carbon footprint. The European fund, which manages US$23trn, called on cement companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and commit to the 2015 Paris Agreement. Following a stoppage of several months, the transport of clinker has resumed in the Port of Málaga, Spain, after the installation of a pioneering conveyor belt.
