Geocycle Albox plant processes waste to 53,000t of AF

Geocycle, part of the LafargeHolcim group, produced 53,000t of alternative fuels, the highest in 10 years, at its Albox plant in Spain as it processed 49,000t of waste, up 20 per cent when compared with volumes in 2017. Cyprus sets 24% reduction goal in greenhouse emissions by 2030

The government of Cyprus has approved a draft National Plan for Energy and Climate to see a reduction of 24 per cent of greenhouse gases in the country by 2030, compared to levels emitted in 2005. However, this total excludes emissions from cement, electricity and pottery sectors. This compares to the EU's greenhouse emissions target of 40 per cent reduction by 2030. The launch of the first solar reactor operating at 800-1000˚C, using rotary kiln and a horizontal bubbling fluidised bed, to manufacture cement is a step nearer. JSW Cement turns water provider

JSW Cement will provide piped and solar-powered water to 11 villages near to its planned grinding plant in Jajpur district, India. As part of  the company's US$13bn 'Enterprise and Social Commitment' programme the villages will be provided with water through a 7500m pipeline later this year. JSW Cement is currently building a 1.2Mta grinding plant in Jajpur district and plans to raise it to 2.4Mta in the future.

Cemex UK will use 100% renewable electricity in 2019

Cemex is partnering with ENGIE a services and regeneration group that uses 100 per cent renewable electricity to supplied sites. ENGIE has been providing electricity to over 150 CEMEX UK sites for over 10 years but has also supplying gas to 33 of these sites. UAE-based Pioneer Cement, a subsidiary of Raysut Cement, has signed an agreement with Emirates RDF that will lead to the use of fuel derived from household waste in its production plant.
