Licence for cement plant project revoked in Lebanon

Lebanon’s Industry Minister, Wael Abu Faour, has revoked the licence of a cement plant planned for Ain Dara, Aley district. The decision comes after a protest by local residents last month, who disputed the project for environmental reasons. In response to the protest, Pierre Fattoush, project owner, had said that Al Arz Cement Co had been issued the licence in compliance with the law and that the plant would be within the legal environmental provisions. India’s Birla Corp has been restricted from mining limestone in Chittorgarh and near the Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary after a new order by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday. LafargeHolcim has urged local residents near to its Ravena cement plant to defeat a new law that would prevent the cement company from burning tyres. Cemex USA reveals new low-emission clinker transport

Cemex USA has established a new low-emission, high-efficiency locomotive to transport clinker at its plant in Victorville, California. The locomotive is equipped with an MTU-4000 Series engine, designed to cut emissions by more than 80 per cent and fuel consumption by 25 per cent. Siam Cement Group (SCG) aims to diversify by developing floating solar modules that it hopes to supply as 1GW solar farms to state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Cleantech Solar has completed building an on-site solar PV system for Chip Mong Insee Cement Corp (CMIC) in Cambodia. The whole system includes a 2.8MW floating solar power plant deployment on CMIC's reservoir and the remaining 7MW installed across multiple rooftops of the facility.
