Argentina’s Loma Negra and Bridgestone have entered a partnership to re-use in Llavallol, Buenos Aires province. Bridgestone will supply 200,000lpd of filtered water. The step will enable the cement producer to reduce pressure on the aquifer it uses to feed its plant.

Kattameya plant burns biomass for the first time

The Suez Cement Kattameya plant (HeidelbergCement Group) has used waste as alternative fuel (AF) in its main burner for the first time this week. The Kattameya plant’s team successfully burnt waste as an AF in the main kiln burner and reduced dependence on fossil fuel by around 10 per cent of the total fuel used. Hima Cement Ltd has agreed to surrender back over 30 acres of land it illegally acquired in Mwello, Tororo, Uganda, according to The Observer. Cartes EIS draws calls for cave protection

Paraguay’s cave research association, Fepae, has called on the country’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development to protect the Risso cave in San Lazaro, Conception, in response to proposals from Grupo Cartes to invest US$180m in a cement plant nearby. The request comes following the publication of an environmental impact study (EIS) by Sociedad Calera Risso that includes the construction of an electrical substation and 66kV transmission line relating to the plant.

Cement companies purchased 0.3Mt of fly ash from Endesa power station

UK and North American cement companies as well as the nearby LafargeHolcim plant have bought some 0.3Mt of fly ash from the Endesa power station in Carboneras, Spain, in 2018. The fly ash is shipped to overseas customers from the port of Endesa Pucarsa. In addition, Endesa has also sold 30,000t of slag and 60,000t of gypsum from its lime plant.
