Indonesia’s PT Semen Padang has announced it exported more than 1.5Mt of cement and clinker to various destinations during 2020, including Bangladesh, China, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Australia, Maldives and Sri Lanka. The cement industry in Pakistan kicked off the FY20-21 on an exciting note. During the first six months of the current fiscal year, total cement dispatches grew by 15.7 per cent, from 24.751Mt in July-December 2019, to 28.628Mt in July-December 2020. Local dispatches have increased by 15.9 per cent in July-December 2020 to 23.61Mt from 20.373Mt in July-December 2019. Vietnam’s cement sales reached 8.96Mt in November, down two per cent MoM, but up six per cent YoY, according to statistics released by the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA).   This total included 5.82Mt sold in the domestic market, up 19 per cent MoM and seven per cent YoY. The port of Annaba in Algeria has exported 300,000t of clinker to several African countries since the start of 2020. Cement demand in Vietnam fell by 11 per cent YoY to 4,899,301t in October 2020. However, when compared with September 2020, a two per cent uptick was reported by the VNCA, the country’s cement association. Cement consumption in Spain has increased by 3.8 per cent YoY to 1,204,590t in November, according to the country’s cement association, Oficemen. Exports edged up 1.6 per cent YoY in November. Turkey has exported nearly US$1bn of cement in 2020, amounting to 30Mt, according to Tamer Saka, the chairman of the Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMB). Cement dispatches in Peru rose 15.6 per cent YoY in November 2020 to 1.188Mt from 1.028Mt in November 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Of the total, 1.092Mt were supplied by Asocem members. Pakistan's Intermarket Securities Ltd has reported that cement manufacturers are hopeful that exports to South African might resume soon as anti-dumping duties expire on 17 December 2020. Cement sales in Saudi Arabia increased 16.5 per cent YoY to 4.75Mt in November 2020, driven by the Ministry of Housing’s programmes, according to NCB Capital Co.
