Jaiprakash Associates (JAL) reported revenues Rs 10,355 crore, up 68% for FY10. The net profit before extraordinaries came in at Rs 1,920.3 crore versus Rs 897 crore, YoY. The company has met its guidance of Rs 10,000 crore revenues in a year. For FY11, it has given a guidance of Rs 16,000 crore in revenue. Saudi Yamama Cement boosts Q1 net profit

Saudi cement producer Yamama Cement Company said it registered a 31% year-on-year surge in its net profit for the first quarter of 2010 to SAR165m (EUR 36m) from SAR126m a year ago. The strong increase was attributed to a rise in sales, Yamama Cement said without giving exact figures. The earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 1.22, up from SAR 0.93. Pakistan cement sales to improve 11%

With higher construction activities by the private sector and recovery in economic activities, the total cement despatches in Pakistan are expected to improve by 11 per cent to 34Mt in fiscal year (FY) 2010.

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC)’s Beestekraal operation has donated 200t of limestone to assist the Brits Department of Road and Transport with the roadwork’s currently taking place on the R511 between Beestekraal and Thabazimibi. A law designed to give Danish cement producer Aalborg Portland a tax break in lieu of increased environmental charges is expected to be ruled illegal by the EU.

Lafarge Cement has raised prices of cement by PHP8 per bag to PHP211/40kg bag of cement from PHP203 on account of high cost of power and coal, which could trigger a start of a series of price increases of cement especially for firms with plants in Mindanao. Holcim Germany sees revenue going down 2010, 2011

The German unit of  Holcim said it expects revenue to shrink in both 2010 and 2011 in line with the 5% decline expected for the whole industry. Portuguese group to build cement factory in Angola

Portuguese group Sociedade Lusa de Negócios (SLNI) is to build a cement factory in Angola under the terms of a contract signed Monday in Luanda with the Angolan National Private Investment Agency (ANIP), Angolan news agency Angop reported.

 The project know as SLN – Fabrica de Cimento e Clinker de Benguela (Benguela Cement and Clinker Factory) represents an investment of US$294m and involves the Angolan Armed Forces Social Security System and other private national investors.

German construction demand up 14.9%

As reported by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the total price-adjusted value of orders received by building construction and civil and underground engineering enterprises in Germany increased by 14.9 percent in March this year from the same month of the previous year. 
 
In March, building construction demand increased by 14.3 percent, while in civil and underground engineering demand increased by 15.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.  

Tanga optimistic about Rwanda market

Tanzania-based Tanga Cement Company (TCC) is positive about the country’s potential due to solid GDP growth and the low inflation rate.   The New Times reports that Tanga Cement invested over Rwf200m (US$348,000) to supply cement in Rwanda and that they intend to deliver over 700,000t by the end of the year.   The company will sell its SIMBA cement brand in Rwanda.   Rwanda currently largely relies on Cimerwa for its cement needs.
