March shipments see YoY increase – USGS report

According to data released by the US Geological Survey (USGS) total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for March 2010 were about 5.4Mt. Preliminary results released by the industry and market estimates indicate that cement sales in Brazil for March 2010 reached 5.1Mt – up 20.6 per cent over the same month last year. Indian cement manufacturers’ margins will fall 6-9% in June-September due to the combined effect of oversupply and a dip in demand in monsoon. Gulf cement producers boosted their net income by more than 19 per cent in the first quarter of 2010 although the value of awarded construction contracts dived by over 70 per cent. Indian cement maker Dalmia Cement (Bharat) last week said its consolidated net profit grew 14.17 per cent to Rs 132.51 crore (US$28.7m) in the year ended March 31, 2010.
