Spanish cement consumption slumps 50% - Valderrivas

Spanish cement producer Cementos Portland Valderrivas president Dieter Kiefer said yesterday that cement consumption has decreased by more than 50% due to the economic crisis and the decline in the real estate sector. Kiefer added that he will fight to save the staff at the company’s plant in Morata de Tajuna. Lafarge Heracles first quarter sales drop

Heracles Group of companies announced today sales of EUR95.0m for the first quarter of 2010, decreasing by 21.4% compared to the same period in 2009. Sales of the company were at EUR82.02m, decreasing by 24.3% compared with the first quarter of 2009.

West China receives approval for new capacity, new contract

West China Cement (WCC) is proceeding with the construction of the two planned cement plants that it indicated were at a planning stage at the time of its annual report.  Pucheng Line 2, with a capacity of 1.1Mta, will raise the company’s total capacity in Pucheng to 2.5Mt and secure its market position in the Weinan region. Semen Gresik, Indocement 2011 output capacity to rise

Indonesian cement firm Semen Gresik’s production capacity is expected to rise to 20.6Mt in 2011, Indonesia’s cement association said on Tuesday. The association added that for next year, Indocement Tunggal Perkasa’s production capacity will also rise to 21.1Mt, while the production capacity of Holcim Indonesia will be steady at 8.7Mt.

India’s Aditya Birla May shipments up 5.6 per cent

India’s Aditya Birla Group said on Tuesday cement shipments in May rose 5.6 per cent from a year earlier to 3.35Mt. Production rose 5.6 per cent to 3.42Mt, the company said in a statement. Last November, the group said it would combine its cement operations under UltraTech Cement to create India’s No.1 cement firm, with an installed capacity of about 49Mta. The process is expected to be completed by July.

GCC restructures US$738m debt, Mexico

Mexican cement maker Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) has completed a plan to refinance some US$738mn of debt, the company said in a release to Mexico City’s bourse BMV. The plan consolidates the firm’s US$455mn banking debt, which includes two syndicated and two bilateral loans. Interest will be paid at Libor plus 4.5%, with a 2% minimum Libor floor, and the debt will mature at end-2015. The firm’s private debt, totaling US$284mn, will also be repaid by end-2015. Gansu Qilianshan to invest in Northwest China

Gansu Qilianshan Cement Group Co Ltd with its subsidiary will jointly inject CNY482m (US$70.5m) into Hongda Building Materials, an arm controlled by Jiuquan Iron & Steel (Group) Co Ltd or JISCO, according to an agreement signed by the Shanghai-listed firm and JISCO on May 28. Demand for cement went up by 15.7 per cent in the first quarter as a result of election-related spending and higher construction activity as a result of the destruction brought by typhoons Pepeng and Ondoy. JK Cement lines up brownfield expansion

JK Cement of India is undertaking brownfield expansion at Mangrol in Rajasthan. It has proposed to set up 5000tpd plant at the site. The company has approved expansion of grey cement capacity by 2.2Mt at the existing site. It has also approved an additional 1.8Mt grinding facility at split location in North India for which it is finalising a site. The expansion plans include a captive power plant of 25MW and the projects would be commissioned by September 2012.
