India’s ACC March quarter net up 23 per cent

ACC Ltd posted on Wednesday a better-than-expected 23 percent rise in quarterly profit on strong sales volumes. ACC, 46 per cent owned by Holcim , said consolidated net profit for the March quarter rose to INR3.99bn (US$79m) from INR3.24bn a year ago. Standalone net profit was INR4.05bn. Consolidated sales rose 14 per cent to INR21.64bn, buoyed by rise in demand from rural areas and large constructions.

UltraTech Cement Q4 net up 9%

Ultratech Cement Ltd has posted a profit after tax of Rs 3094.60m for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 as compared to Rs 2828.80m for the quarter ended March 31, 2008. The total income has increased from Rs16289.70m for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 to Rs18888.60m for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.

HeidelbergCement in talks to refinance EUR5.33bn

HeidelbergCement is in talks with banks to refinance and extend the maturity of a EUR5.33bn loan, banking sources said on Monday. Indonesian cement producers felt that the cement price hike was quite reasonable as it was based on many acceptable reasons. Russian cement holding Eurocement Group has signed an agreement to supply cement to Russian construction company LSR Group, Eurocement Group said Monday. Under the agreement, St. Petersburg-based Eurocement Trade, a unit of Eurocement Group, will supply at least 10,000 tonnes of cement per month until the end of 2009. Lafarge plans to launch plant in Rostov Reg in 2012

Lafarge to launch the first stage of a cement plant in Russia’s Rostov Region in 2012, the press office of the region’s agency for investment said Monday. The first stage of the plant will have an annual production capacity of 2Mt of cement. According to earlier reports, the plant will be located in the region’s Matveyevo-Kurgansky district. The plant’s capacity is expected to reach 4Mt after the launch of the second stage in 2015.

Saudi consumers weigh in on cement export dispute

Saudi Arabia’s Consumer Protection Association has called for lower cement prices while producers of the commodity seek to end a 10-month ban on exports which they blame for eroding their margins. Republic Cement Corp. reported a three-quarter increase in profits in 2008, citing higher sales, cost cuts, and intensified marketing. Republic Cement, which is majority owned by the local unit of French multinational Lafarge, said profits grew to P2.83 billion in 2008 from only P1.63 billion in 2007 after sales climbed to P14.99 billion from P13.82 billion.
