Italcementi’s first quarter turnover declined by 11.1% to €1201.2m, while the running EBITDA fell by 27.0% to €188.9m and the trading profit by 57.3% to €64.6m.  The pre-tax profit dropped by 68.4% to €36.9m while the net attributable profit went from a €38.7m profit to a loss of €12.7m after charging €32.8m to minorities. Cemex in cement probe, denies collusion, Mexico

Cemex said on Thursday it was under investigation for possible collusion with its competitors in Mexico but denied any wrongdoing, reports Reuters. Mexico’s competition commission told Reuters this week it is investigating possible cartel behavior by big building materials companies and expects to announce results next year. Birla Corp Ltd, part of the MP Birla Group, expects its cement capacity to rise to 10Mt in two years from 6Mt now, the company said in a release Thursday here. Ciments Francais will pay a one-off dividend of four euros (US$5.36) a share if the planned takeover by majority shareholder Italcementi SpA goes through, Ciments Francais said on Tuesday. Construction materials supplier Boral says $210 million from the sale of its interest in cement maker Adelaide Brighton Ltd will be used to pay off debt. Boral has sold its entire 17.6 per cent stake in Adelaide Brighton, of 107.8 million shares, for $1.95 each for a small profit.
