Qatar government to crackdown on price hikes

Arabian Business reported that Qatar is set to crackdown on the price of essential commodities by introducing tougher rules on distributors. Lafarge Ciment turnover in Moldova rises

Turnover of the Rezina cement plant in Moldova owned by Lafarge Ciment has exceeded 1.003 billion lei (USS$1.2m) in 2008; an  increase of 180 million lei. Net profit increased by one third and constituted almost 271.97 million lei ($24.7m). Chairman of the Council, Philippe Questiaux, promised during the course of a meeting with Prime Minister Zinaida Grechanaya in 2008 to increase the cement output from 800,000t to 1.2-1.4Mt.

On April 14, 2009 President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, attended a groundbreaking ceremony for Garadagh OJSC’s new state-of-the-art kiln, AzerTag news agency reported. Venezuela considers payment for Holcim, Lafarge

The Venezuela’s government may pay European cement companies Holcim and Lafarge with cash and bonds in compensation for nationalized assets, El Universal reported , citing unidentified government officials. Vietnam: Kien Giang cement plant breaks ground

Construction of the Ha Tien 2-2 cement production line started yesterday in Kien Luong District in the southern province of Kien Giang, said the Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem). With an investment capital of VND3.04trn  (US$173.71m), the project has a capacity of 1.26Mta of clinker  per year and 600,000t of cement. Polysuis and Bedeschi will provide equipment for the Ha Tien 2-2 cement line.

In 2008 HeidelbergCement Ukraine (previously known as OJSC Kryvy Rih Cement, Dnipropetrovsk region) increased its net income by 37.8% YoY, to UAH1.136bn.
